HOW STORIES SHAPE FUTURES: FAITH, SCIENCE AND POSSIBILITY.

ECLAS in cooperation with the British Society for the History of Science and in connection with the Science Museum’s Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination exhibition.

The stories we tell shape the decisions we make. This is especially clear when we tell stories about the future. Prophetic stories reveal truths about the here and now, even while pulling our eyes to the horizon. Join us at the Science Museum as we explore possible futures and the way they impact current understanding and choices. What role will science and faith play in the future? How might they fit together or fall apart? With the Science Fiction exhibition as our background, we will gather senior church leaders with theologians, scientists and authors to explore these crucial stories and ask how they shape us.

The event will be split into two parts: on 6th June, the British Society for the History of Science will hold a conference for scientists and academics from other disciplines on Science, Fiction, Faith and the Future(s). On 7th June, the event will continue with an invitation-only event for academics and senior church leaders.

This will be followed by a public seminar from 6:30-8pm in the Science Museum’s lecture theatre, where we will hear from Prof Magda Osman (Head of Research and Analysis, Centre for Science and Policy, University of Cambridge), Prof Alister McGrath (Emeritus Andreos Idreos Professor of Science and Religion, University of Oxford) and Dr Una McCormack (New York Times bestselling science fiction author) on How stories shape futures: Faith, Science and Possibility.
