Science across the Anglican Communion
Supporting deeper engagementECLAS and the Anglican Communion
ECLAS has supported the Anglican Communion Science Commission (ACSC) since its creation following the Lambeth Conference in 2022.
Since 2025, Revd Dr Muthuraj Swamy has been based at the Anglican Communion Office in the role of ECLAS Theological Facilitator and Researcher. He explores how ECLAS research, projects and resources can further the work of the ACSC, and works with Provincial Lead Bishops on Science and Faith, supporting them to reflect on their roles and activities.
In addition, ECLAS Co-Director, the Rt Revd Dr Richard Cheetham, is a founding member of the ACSC.

Revd Dr Muthuraj Swamy
Revd Dr Muthuraj Swamy is based at the Anglican Communion Office. He supports the Anglican Communion Science Commission by resourcing them through the work of ECLAS.
Muthuraj would be delighted to have a conversation about science-faith relations, contextual theology, or Christian public engagement, and to support you in your public ministry and witness.

Support for senior leaders
As well as offering support in theological engagement with science through Revd Dr Muthuraj Swamy, we hold regular online and in-person conferences for senior Church leaders.
Past conferences have explored AI, cosmology, ocean plastics, agriculture in East Africa, and how to read the Bible in an age of science. Each of them has recorded talks available to watch again on our conferences page.
These events are by invitation only; if you are a senior Church leader who would like to be considered for invitation, please email eclas.conferences@durham.ac.uk
ECLAS can also support diocesan-level conferences for church leaders, exploring a particular scientific issue. We can do this by providing or suggesting speakers, topics, or resources.

ECLAS has a rich bank of resources exploring issues in science and faith, from our blog, to videos, to research papers.
The film ‘Science Across the Anglican Communion’ was co-created by ECLAS and bishops across the Anglican Communion for the Lambeth Conference in 2022, showing how science and faith are explored and imagined across different contexts.
The accompanying report from ECLAS, ‘Developing Positive Science-Faith Engagement Across the Anglican Communion’, suggests ways that church leaders can explore, or deepen, their engagement with science within a church or community. It includes ideas on worship, liturgy, creation care, and more, along with input from theologians and practitioners.
Climate Cathedral is an immersive exhibition of Southwark Cathedral which brings together voices from science and theology, action and reflection. The content is international in scope, with a particular focus on Africa.
Finally, our Stories of Science and Faith resource is for churches and Christians interested in learning more about the relationship between science and faith over time. Here you will find a range of stories investigating how the relationship between science and faith can be collaborative and supportive in nature. The stories can be used as inspiration for sermons, as the basis for reading and discussion groups, or adapted for parish magazines or newsletters.
