In 1885 builders working in St Mary and St Eanswythe’s church, Folkestone, discovered a hidden cavity in the wall of the Chancel. Inside, almost buried by rubble, they saw an ancient-looking lead casket and within it some fragile bones. These were immediately hailed as the relics of St Eanswythe and revered as such.
Until recently, though, no one was entirely sure. How might science and faith work together to find out?
This film captures some of that team’s reflections on their experience of investigating the relics and what that experience might mean.
