Revd Justin Tomkins talks about the Scientists in Congregations project at St Mary’s Church Longfleet, in Poole.
The project drew upon the experience of healthcare professionals in order to explore contemporary medicine in the context of Christian faith. A behind-the-scenes tour of Poole Hospital has been a particular highlight and involved over fifty people visiting the pharmacy, neurophysiology, medical physics and radiotherapy departments and to learn about some of the technology involved, not least the LINAC (Linear Accelerator). A ‘Medical Panel’ evening provided further opportunities to engage with the area through quizzing General Practitioners, an IT professional, a Clinical Scientist, an ‘A&E’ nurse, and a hospital chaplain on their work and faith.
