ECLAS India is based at United Theological College, Bengaluru. It is led by Prof Israel David, Principal of UTC, with co-director Revd Prof Alexander Isaac.

ECLAS India works across India and selected countries including Sri Lanka.

Prof Israel David

Prof Israel David is Principal of United Theological College in Bengaluru and leads ECLAS India. His research interests are pastoral theology, research methodology in pastoral counselling, and pastoral psychology among Indian marginalised communities.

Revd Prof Alexander Isaac

Revd Prof Alexander M. Isaac teaches Ethics in the Department of Theology and Ethics at United Theological College, Bengaluru. Eco Ethics is his primary area of research. He holds Master’s Degrees in both Science and Theology and took his Doctoral Degree from Boston University in Ethics. He also teaches Religion and Science at UTC. He has published on the themes of creation, bioethics, hermeneutics, and eco-justice.

Awards and activities

In January 2025, ECLAS India co-hosted a conference at Lanka Theological College in Sri Lanka entitled Intersection of Religion and Ecology: Faith Initiatives amidst Planetary Climate Change. An edited volume of presentations given at this conference is forthcoming.

 

In July 2025, ECLAS India held a conference at Faith Theological Seminary in Kerala on how AI affects seminaries and churches.
